TEXT: AMOS 8:1-2
MEMORY VERSE: “Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD.” Amos 8:1 KJV
0 And the apostles, when they had returned, told Him all that they had done. Then He took them and went aside privately into a deserted place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. 11 But when the multitudes knew it, they followed Him; and He received them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who had need of healing. 12 When the day began to wear away, the twelve came and said to Him, “Send the multitude away, that they may go into the surrounding towns and country, and lodge and get provisions; for we are in a deserted lace ”
When the importance of a thing is not known, abuse is imminent. In abundant supply, people do not tend to value things. But you see them appreciate it when it is scarce.
Our text reveals God’s understanding of man’s reaction to the abundant supply of His word. God is concerned with the nonchalant attitude we display towards His word during and after sermon. There is a great heavenly concern on our total disregard and disobedience to God’s word. We have heard so much of His word but do nothing with them.
God has resolved to send famine in the land. Unfortunately, the famine has nothing to do with food, it equally has nothing to do with water. But it has everything to do with the hearing of God’s word. Beloved, a day will come when you will not hear nor see any preacher wake you up in the morning with preaching. Such a day is coming when in all the television channels no preacher will be seen preaching to you. Yes! A day is coming when you will sit in the church from morning till night and no preacher will climb the pulpit. That day is coming when you will search for tracts and you will not see any one. The scripture confirms thus: “And they shall wonder from seas to sea, and from the north even to the east; they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it” (Amos 8:12 KJV).
Ensure that the word you are hearing today finds expression and has a reflection in your life because the day is coming when you will seek the word, but will not find it. It will be terrible when that day comes.
- Don’t just be a hearer of the word but endeavour to be a doer too.
Father, thank you for giving us your word. Help us to make good use of them for our transformation, in Jesus’ name.
