TEXT: JEREMIAH 31:27-34
MEMORY VERSE: “Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah” (Jeremiah 31:31).
When we look at biblical history, God always made a covenant with a person, people, or nation with whom He began a new relationship. He is faithful to the provisions of His covenant; and in it, He gives a new beginning. He enacts a new period of relationship that would be beneficial to the covenantee. However, the covenantee has a part to play to make the covenant workable and effective.
When He began a relationship with Abraham, He gave him the first rule, which is to us also. He said, “Walk before me, and be thou perfect [blameless]” (Gen. 17:1 ASV). This is the part we are to play in the covenant relationship with God. He made a covenant with us in the blood of Jesus. In that covenant, we are required to accept Jesus as our Lord and personal Saviour. Thereafter, God expects us to maintain a life of holiness and righteous (Titus 3:8); and grow in His word to perfection (Eph. 4:13). This is the evidence we would show to prove that we love and align with Him.
If we discipline ourselves to do it, we would enjoy the benefits that come from the covenant (1 Cor 2:9 NLT).
All that God demands from us is for us to separate ourselves from the inordinate pleasures of this present world. They are contrary to His will and original design.
- Respect the covenant in the blood of Jesus through obedience, holiness, and righteous living.
- Father, thank you for the covenant in the blood of Jesus. Let it find fulfilment in my life.
