TEXT: ACTS 19: 16 – 34
MEMORY VERSE: “Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn’t worship Him as God or even give Him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a result, their minds became dark and confused. Claiming to be wise, they instead became utter fools” (Romans 1: 21-22 NLT).
The moment people begin to think God to be what He is not, their inclinations, attitudes, and dispositions towards Him would change. Such people would develop a concept about God that suits their whims and caprices. They enter into many errors, and often do the wrong things.
But we can know the true nature of God and His ways through His word in the holy scriptures. No philosophy or intellectual theory can describe God’s attributes like the Bible. Christians are counselled to dig deep into the scriptures to actually find out who God is, His dispositions, His ways, the things that please Him, and the things He hates. This is would enable them to order their steps according to the principles of God’s word, appropriately.
When they understand God’s ways, they would be able to regulate their life to fit into the mould that He wants them to be – to be like Jesus (Rom. 8:29). They would seek His face; they would desire to please Him in all things; live their life in consonance with His word, and be His people. This is part of the nucleus of the Christian race; that is, to be acceptable to God and not be rejected and cast away.
Many people know God and understand His ways; yet, they do not worship Him sincerely; but as it suits them. The Bible says they deny God by the kind of life they live – a life or worldliness.
Let us learn to worship God in Spirit and in truth.
- Since we can’t see God physically, should we device our own ways?
- Father, help us to know you more and more.
