ESOCS Devotional 27 July
TEXT: Amos 7: 1- end
MEMORY VERSE: “And so it was, when they had finished eating the grass of the land that I said: O Lord God forgive, I pray oh, that Jacob may stand for he is small, so the Lord relented concerning this.” Amos 7:2 NKJV
Amos must have felt overwhelmed: God had threatened to annihilate Israel. The prophet already had warned the people of judgment; now it had arrived what could he do?
The only thing he could do was to beg God to forgive. Amos prayed for his people with compassion and honesty. Tiny Israel he said would not survive the judgment. Twice he interceded and twice God withdraw His judgment. Amos stepped in between the people and God and negotiated their survival.

Daniel intervened in Dan. 9:3-23, Abraham pleaded with God not to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah in Genesis 18:16-33 and Moses save the Israel from the wrath of God Numbers 11:1-3, Exodus 32:9-14.
Prayer changes things; Amos shows us what to do with impossible problems.
He reminds us how powerful our prayer can be in the face of trouble. Sometimes we have no idea what kind of changes we orchestrate or kind of pain we spare others by what we do in our prayer closets.
We as members and leaders must pray ceaselessly 1 Thessalonians 5:17 for the prayer of a righteous man availeth much James 5:16.
Therefore, let us continue sowing the seed.
