TEXT: JOHN 3:23-36
MEMORY VERSE: “He must increase but I must decrease.” John 3:30
0 And the apostles, when they had returned, told Him all that they had done. Then He took them and went aside privately into a deserted place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. 11 But when the multitudes knew it, they followed Him; and He received them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who had need of healing. 12 When the day began to wear away, the twelve came and said to Him, “Send the multitude away, that they may go into the surrounding towns and country, and lodge and get provisions; for we are in a deserted lace ”
Today, believers can bear witness that the testimony of John the Baptist about Christ Jesus is true, confirmed, and verifiable. In John 1:7, the Bible says of John the Baptist that he “came for a witness of the light, that all men through him might believe.” In verse 26 of our text, John’s disciples confirmed to him thus: “… Rabbi he that was with thee beyond Jordan to whom thou bearest witness, behold the same baptizeth and all men come to him.” KJV
Brethren, there is nothing as sweet as having the confirmation of your message as a prophet or a preacher by means of the manifestations of your words and declarations in the life of the people. John was truly gratified that his witness about Jesus Christ was confirmed by his own disciples who heard him (John 3:23-29). In verse 29b John said, “This my joy therefore is fulfilled.” To attain this height of joy in Christian faith, one must allow the word of God and the dictates of one’s calling take pre-eminence in one’s ministry. You have to work and walk within the ambit of the word of God (vs. 30-34). Verse 34 says, “For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: For God giveth not the spirit to him by measure.” KJV
Our joy is eternal. It does not end in the life on earth but is everlasting (vs. 35-36; John 3:15).
It is therefore pertinent that we ensure that the message we give (whether of the gospel or of prophecy) is true and verifiable.
- Have you got the sweet experience of confirmation of your message or prayer by the testimony of the receivers?
- Father, grant me the grace of the spirit and power of truth in my ministry, in Jesus Name. Amen.
