TEXT: 2 KINGS 18:1-12
MEMORY VERSE: “And the Lord was with him; and he prospered withersoever he went forth: and he rebelled against the Kings of Assyria, and served him not.” 2 Kings 18: 7 KJV
0 And the apostles, when they had returned, told Him all that they had done. Then He took them and went aside privately into a deserted place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. 11 But when the multitudes knew it, they followed Him; and He received them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who had need of healing. 12 When the day began to wear away, the twelve came and said to Him, “Send the multitude away, that they may go into the surrounding towns and country, and lodge and get provisions; for we are in a deserted lace ”
In these wicked days that we live, just as it was during Hezekiah’s reign, it takes great courage to do right and to trust in God. King Hezekiah chose to do right in the sight of God and he trusted in the Lord God of Israel with a difference (2 Kings 18:3-6).
Some of the ways Hezekiah used to show how much he trusted and clave to God can be seen in verse 4 of our text: he “removed the high places, and brake the images, and cut down the groves, and brake in pieces the brazen serpent that Moses had made”.
When a person really trusts in the Lord, he will have deep conviction about those things, which are right. This is the reason that we are admonished to “trust and obey”. We are expected to remove from our lives anything that will be a hindrance in our relationship with God. Some of these things are shown in Colossians 3:5-10. We need to do as Hezekiah did and break down these things!
Hezekiah’s Trust in the Lord portrayed a difference (v 5). When you trust in the Lord, it will be seen in your testimony. There will be a remarkable difference from you who trusts the Lord and have the conviction to faithfully obey Him, and one who does not.
Hezekiah’s trusting God gave him direction and brought him prosperity (vs 6, 7). If there is anything that our churches need, it is a sense of direction, knowing where God is leading us. We must have a sense of direction; just like a homing pigeon, with our eyes fixed upon heaven. God gives us the direction that we need to continue the mission that we have upon earth and causes His prosperity to be upon us, so that people will actually know we are serving Him.
Just as Hezekiah put his total trust in the Lord God of Israel and God prospered him wherever he went, so we are expected to trust the Lord with every aspect of our lives so that we will receive His reward.
- Those who put their trust in the Lord enjoy perfect peace from God.
- Lord, keep me in perfect peace, as my mind is stayed on you.
