TEXT: 1 KINGS 5:1-12
MEMORY VERSE: “And behold, I propose to build a house for the name of the Lord my God, as the Lord spoke to my father David …” (1 Kings 5:5a NKJV).
Solomon had a purposeful mind. David his father had desired to build the Lord a befitting house but God did not allow him. God chose Solomon instead (1 Kings 5:5b). He set it up as a project that must be completed. He dedicated his life and time to accomplish the project; and all the resources that God had provided, he utilised judiciously.
A good Christian attitude we should develop in us is taking the things that concern God and us seriously, and investing all the resources we have to achieve God’s purpose, and success in our life endeavours. Wasting our energy, time, position, connection, gift, talent, calling, financial resources, among others, on frivolities cannot produce good results, and they do not help us in any way to accomplish God’s will for us, and in our life.
Solomon determined “to build a house for the name of the Lord [his] God.” What project have we proposed to accomplish to God’s glory, and to the praise of His holy name? What good things have we determined in our heart to do for God, and for other people? Have we channelled appropriately, the resources God has given us? Do we use our wealth for righteous things? Do we indulge in worldliness with our gifts and resources? Do we spend our time in unproductive leisure, things or activities that mock God or annoy Him?
Again, a fundamental issue is the failure and unwillingness of many people to “build the Lord a house in our heart.” This is a project that would determine where we would spend our eternity. We need to take it seriously. We need to build the Lord a fine house in our heart, so that His Son will come in to dine with us (Rev. 3:20).
- Ensure that you live a life that is driven with purpose.
- Holy Spirit, please guide to fulfil God’s purpose in my life.
