TEXT: EPHESIANS 4:1-16
MEMORY VERSE: “I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called” (Ephesians 4:1 KJV).
There are two important things here. Paul was the Lord’s prisoner. In many parts of the scriptures, he referred to himself as such; and he was glad about it. His attitude was that he aligned himself completely with the will of God, no matter the condition. Such behaviour is well pleasing to God.
When we align ourselves with God’s will, it enables us to live according to what His word says. We would be able to keep ourselves within the bounds of the Bible. Like the prisoner is restricted from going out of the prison walls and gates, so we are restricted from going outside God’s word in our lifestyle. This is not by compulsion but through a willingness that comes from the heart. We obey God’s word with all our hearts, mind, spirit, and soul.
If we make a humble submission to God like Paul, the Holy Spirit would guide us specially in the ways of God, and teach us the secret things and principles of the kingdom of God for our benefit. James 4:7 says, “Submit yourselves, then, to God …” (NIV).
The disciples submitted themselves to the Lord Jesus and obeyed His word. They excelled in their Christian life and became saints. We should do likewise.
The other issue is that we should “live a life worthy of the calling [we] have received” (Eph. 4:1 NIV). In our way of life, let us resemble Christ. There’s no better thing to do.
- How much have you submitted yourself to God?
- Father, help me to strengthen my relationship with you.
