TEXT: DANIEL 3:1-18
MEMORY VERSE: “Now if ye be ready that all what time you hear the sound of the cornet … and all kinds of music, ye shall fall down and worship the image which I have made; well: if ye worship not, ye shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace; and who is that God that shall deliver you out of my hands?” (Daniel 3:15 KJV)
Many people tend to learn their lessons only the hard way. The greatest error any one would make is to question or deny the existence of God, His omnipotence, omniscience, and omnipresence. In biblical history, three people committed this grievous sin obviously and they were grossly punished and humiliated. The first was Pharaoh the king of Egypt, the second was Nebuchadnezzar, and the third was Herod.
For Pharaoh, he was destroyed in the Red Sea with his army (Ex. 15:4). He had said to Moses and Aaron, “Who is the Lord, that I should obey him and let Israel go? I do not know the Lord and I will not let Israel go” (Ex. 5:2 NIV). Nebuchadnezzar was turned like a beast and he dwelled in the forest with wild animals for any years. It was after his experience from which he learned the hard way that he acknowledged that truly, the God of Israel is the only true and Almighty God (Dan. 4:30-37). Herod made an ovation that brought him glory, and denied God His glory in the process. The Bible says, “Immediately, because Herod did not give praise to God, an angel of the Lord struck him down, and he was eaten by worms and died” (Acts 12:23 NIV).
These men learned their lessons the hard way before they died. In our time, let us do only things that would not make us experience the anger and wrath of God. We don’t need them!
CHALLENGES
- Search your life for anything that does glorify God, and throw it away.
- Pray for the spirit of humility and to give God all the glory due to Him always.
