TEXT: EZEKIEL 18:14-24
MEMORY VERSE: “The soul that sinneth, it shall die” (Ezekiel 18: 20).
At the question time, everyone would stand alone. The book shall be opened. The details of everyone’s actions shall be seen; even the thoughts of the innermost mind shall be made plain. Nothing would be hidden. We have the opportunity for true repentance now. Sin has never profited anyone. Rather, it has ruined generations. Let us be mindful.
“The soul that sins, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father; neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him” (Ezekiel 18: 20).
God is very plain in His word here; there is no confusion or ambiguity. Just plain truth. Everyone shall bear the consequences of his sin. It is not transferable. There is no collective blame or condemnation. Judgement shall be made personal, and retribution shall be upon the guilty.
On the other hand, God imputes righteousness on anyone who accepts Jesus as his Lord and Saviour. His sins are washed away, he becomes a new creation of God (2 Cor. 5:17); and therefore, he would not pass into judgement and he would not be condemned (Rom. 1:8). He is given the divine authority to be called a son of God (John 1:12). He is reconciled with God in Christ (2 Cor. 5:18-19); and “Therefore if any person is [ingrafted] in Christ (the Messiah) he is a new creation (a new creature altogether); the old [previous moral and spiritual condition] has passed away. Behold, the fresh and new has come!” (2 Cor. 5:17 AMP). He is declared, NOT GUILTY!
He shall not be held responsible for the sins of his parents. He is pure in Christ; and he is His offspring. His parents shall not be accountable for his sins either. It is personal responsibility.
If we choose to be in Christ, we must be holy as He is, and without blemish, wrinkle, or dark spot: that we may be numbered among the saints of God.
- Let Jesus dwell richly in you that you may become the righteousness of God.
- Lord, guide me in your ways and teach me to walk in uprightness.
