TEXT: MATTHEW 10:1-15
MEMORY VERSE: “For the Lord shall bring every work into judgment with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil” (Ecclesiastes 12:14).
The Latin equivalent for divine judgment is “Judicium divinum”. It denotes the action of God’s retributive justice by which the destiny of rational creatures is decided according to their merits and demerits.
The judgment of God is also described in the Bible as a process, not strictly the rendering of a verdict or passing of a sentence. For example, Peter tells us that “The time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God” (1 Peter 4:17). So, judgment is an evaluation process that has already begun for those who are part of God’s church and this evaluation ultimately will lead to rendering of a decision or verdict. After this evaluation process, we will be judged according to our works (Rev. 22:12) only after a fair and ample process is completed.
Jesus said to His disciples, “And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand!’ Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, drive out demons. Freely (without pay) you have received, freely (without charge) give” (Matt. 10:7-8 AMP).
Jesus emphasized the Judgment of God. In verses14-15,He said, “And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of the house or the city … It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city.” For people who are like Sodom and Gomorrah, God’s judgement will come like the heat in hot dry season. Will you be ready?
Our Lord’s ultimate call is repentance, that our salvation in Christ may be complete and secure.
- Live your life in view of God’s coming judgment.
- Father, count me among the righteous on your judgement day.
