TEXT: 2 TIMOTHY 4:1-11
MEMORY VERSE: “For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.” 2 Timothy 4:3 NIV
0 And the apostles, when they had returned, told Him all that they had done. Then He took them and went aside privately into a deserted place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. 11 But when the multitudes knew it, they followed Him; and He received them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who had need of healing. 12 When the day began to wear away, the twelve came and said to Him, “Send the multitude away, that they may go into the surrounding towns and country, and lodge and get provisions; for we are in a deserted lace ”
An evangelical can be defined as a protestant Christian who believes that the essence of the Gospel consists of the doctrine of salvation by grace through faith in Christ. Additionally, the term evangelical refers to a person, church, or organization that is committed to the Christian Gospel message that Jesus Christ is the Saviour of humanity. Evangelicals, moreover, believe in the commitment to the practice of conversion. They teach that people need to be changed into a Christ-like direction as a basis for taking part in the eternal life. In other words, they maintain that the only road to salvation is through absolute faith in Christ Jesus.
In our text, Paul forewarns Timothy of a time when people will no longer be comfortable to listen to the pure word ofGod (1 Tim. 1:10; 2 Tim. 2:15-16). Such persons will turn away from the true word of God. They will rather prefer to listen to those teachings that will please them. They will seek teachers that will proclaim those things that conform to their own desires (1 Tim. 3:7-8). Obviously, when people seek to establish their choice religious behaviour, they willreject the perfect will of God. They will rather prefer the ways of the world.
However, St. Paul charges that Timothy must continue to proclaim the undiluted message of the Gospel. This, he shoulddo amidst all opposition. The subject of preaching must be the word of God. Emphasis on plain theologies must be condemned. To Paul, it is the Gospel event of Christ’s death and resurrection for our hope that matters. All else are falseaccounts. All else is heresy.
Let all evangelicals world-wide rise up to this charge. Time is running out.
- These days, people spread all sorts of heresy in the name of preaching the Gospel. These false or debased teachings have resulted in broken marriages, youth cultism, over-emphasis on material wealth, rather than Kingdom principles. What is your view on this?
- Holy Spirit Divine, the grand teacher of divine truth. Please grant me the courage to keep emphasizing on the pure word of the Gospel.
