TEXT: EPHESIANS 5:1-14
MEMORY VERSE: “And do what the LORD your God orders you to do. Obey all his laws and commands as written in the law of Moses so that wherever you go you may prosper in everything you do” (1 Kings 2:3 GNT).
At the time David was about to die, he revealed to his son Solomon the secret of the good relationship he enjoyed with God: Obey God in all things that He has commanded.
David had too much troubles and enemies in his lifetime. He suffered persecutions from within and from the outside. Yet, he had peace and victory in all these things. The secret of his victories and successes was that he obeyed God, and had peace with Him. God said concerning him, “I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My heart, who shall do all My will” (Acts 13:22 ASV).
If we desire to have peace in the midst of the troubles of this life, and to become victorious and successful, all that we need to do is to be diligent to obey God in all things, in all situations, at all times, and in all places. Obedience to God is a key factor, and it is our foremost obligation and responsibility. It is our bounding duty, also. We should make it our priority. The rewards are many, and bountiful too.
The Bible summarizes it this way: “Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole [duty] of man” (Eccl. 12:13 NIV). Furthermore, Deuteronomy 10:12-13 says, “… what does the Lord your God require of you? He requires only that you fear the Lord your God, and live in a way that pleases him, and love him and serve him with all your heart and soul. And you must always obey the Lord’s commands and decrees …” Yes, this is true, and the final thing. Our Lord Jesus said Himself, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work” (John 4:34 NKJV). Like Him, let obedience to God be the food we eat. It is the best thing to do in life.
- Be determined to live by God’s word all through life.
- Father, enable me to live by your word alone.
