ESOCS Devotional 24 March 2026 – Assurance of God’s Promises Guaranteed
MEMORY VERSE: “I will bless those who bless you, but I will curse those who curse you. And through you I will bless all nations.” Genesis 12:3 GNB
TEXT: GENESIS 12:1-9
Now the Lord had said to Abram:
“Get out of your country,
From your family
And from your father’s house,
To a land that I will show you.
2 I will make you a great nation;
I will bless you
And make your name great;
And you shall be a blessing.
3 I will bless those who bless you,
And I will curse him who curses you;
And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”
4 So Abram departed as the Lord had spoken to him, and Lot went with him. And Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran. 5 Then Abram took Sarai his wife and Lot his brother’s son, and all their possessions that they had gathered, and the people whom they had acquired in Haran, and they departed to go to the land of Canaan. So they came to the land of Canaan. 6 Abram passed through the land to the place of Shechem, as far as the terebinth tree of Moreh. And the Canaanites were then in the land.
7 Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, “To your descendants I will give this land.” And there he built an altar to the Lord, who had appeared to him. 8 And he moved from there to the mountain east of Bethel, and he pitched his tent with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east; there he built an altar to the Lord and called on the name of the Lord. 9 So Abram journeyed, going on still toward the South.

Has God ever spoken concerning you? Has He ever made promises to you concerning anything? If so, doubt not – wait for it. It must surely come to fulfilment. In Psalms 40:1-3, David waited patiently for the Lord’s promises. He eventually had a new song put in his mouth. Yours will not be an exception. In Habakkuk 2:3, we understand that any vision from the Lord is yet for an appointed time. So, even if it seems slow in coming, we are encouraged to wait with patience. It will surly come to pass.
In our text, God promised Abraham that someday people of all nations throughout the world will be blessed through one of his descendants (Matthew 1:1-2). This promise is fulfilled in Jesus Christ. Anyone – whether Jew or Gentile – can become a child of Abraham by believing in Jesus Christ through His finished work on the cross (Acts 3:25; Galatians 3:8).
Recall that God first called Abraham, while he lived in Ur of the Chaldees (Acts 7:3; Hebrews 11:8). His call was to leave his home and extended family in order to go to a country that God would show him. This he did without any form of doubt or cross-question. Subsequently, God promised that He would make a great nation out of him; give him a great name, give him a land that flows with milk and honey; and that, from his seed, all peoples of the earth will be blessed.
Progressively, the initial fulfilment of God’s promise of offspring to Abraham is seen in the birth of Abraham’s legitimate son – Isaac (Genesis 21:2). However, Paul in Galatians 3:15-16, 19; sees a more complete picture of the fulfilment of this prophecy in the birth of Abraham’s true offspring (seed), Jesus Christ. Prophecy – promise fulfilled.
Reflections
- God’s word points to your future. Wait for it. It will not fail.
- Prayer
- Lord, grant me the virtue of patience.
