ESOCS Devotional 23 December
TEXT: JOHN 1:1-10
MEMORY VERSE: “And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and He said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.” Exodus 3:14 KJV
The gospel of St. John reveals that Jesus is both God and man in one person – The Word that was made flesh, and dwelt among men (John 1:1,14). John’s Gospel began and ended with the assertion that Jesus is God. Jesus is the GREAT I AM of Exodus 3:14, He is Lord and God. A careful study of St. John gospel will indicate the “I AM” statement, repeatedly made throughout the book.
Jesus is God’s Son, He is one with the Father, and as recorded in John 10:30; He claimed equality with the Father, for which the Jews took offence. However, it is also clear from scripture that Jesus is not the same person as the Father, for the Father is greater than He. (John 14:28). For His earthly messianic assignment, He took on human flesh, and as human, He became hungry, thirsty, and tired. He experienced human emotions, and when he was stabbed on the cross, blood and water came out.

All things in heaven and in earth were made by Him – both visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him (Col. 1:16; Ps. 33:6; 1 Cor. 8:6; Eph. 3:9; Heb. 1:2, 10). It is also clear from scripture that all that exist in the material world were brought into existence from that which did not exist (Heb. 11:3), and was done through the creative power of the Word (John 1:1; Gen. 1:1-25).
Jesus is indeed The Word, The I AM and Lord of all. O, come let us adore Him; He is Christ the King.
