TEXT: NEHEMIAH 8:1-13
MEMORY VERSE: “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works” (2Timothy 3:16-17).
The children of Israel were happy when Ezra the scribe read the book of the Law of Moses, which the Lord gave Israel. As a result, “Then all the people went away to eat and drink, to send portions of food and to celebrate with great joy, because they now understood the words that had been made known to them” (Ezra 8: 12 NIV).
God’s word is a total package to love, and uphold; for it was given to guide and direct people on earth; and give the man of God a step-by-step instruction on how to live a sinless, perfect, godly, sanctified life. Hebrews 4:12 explains the potency of God’s word: “For the Word that God speaks is alive and full of power [making it active, operative, energizing, and effective]; it is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating to the dividing line of the breath of life (soul) and [the immortal] spirit, and of joints and marrow [of the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and sifting and analyzing and judging the very thoughts and purposes of the heart” (AMP).
The word of God is revealed to us in the person of our Lord Jesus Christ. From Him and His lifestyle while He was here on earth, we learn the true interpretation of God’s word. We owe ourselves the obligation to imbibe the teachings and principles in it, and live by them for our own good. God said, “But this thing I did command them: Listen to and obey My voice, and I will be your God and you will be My people; and walk in the whole way that I command you, that it may be well with you” (Jer. 7:23 AMP).
- Meditate, live, preach, and demonstrate the word of God.
- Holy Spirit, please empower and teach us the word of God.
