TEXT: 1 KINGS: 3:1-14
MEMORY VERSE: “If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer” (Matthew 21 :22).
God told Solomon to make a request of what he desired from Him, after Solomon’s bountiful sacrifices. Solomon had offered a sacrifice of a thousand animals in expression of the depth of love he had for Him. This was done from the bottom of his heart.
Believers are encouraged to worship God with their substance from the depth of their hearts (Prov. 3:9). Such attitude attracts God’s favour, kindness, and great reward. Solomon’s offering gave him open cheque: “Ask! What shall I give you?” (1 Kings 3:5). Solomon asked for wisdom. God gave it to him, and added other blessings also.
When a believer goes the extra mile while doing things for God, He will also go the extra mile in rewarding him. There is no two-way about it. What you sow is what you reap. The Scripture says, “[Remember] this: he who sows sparingly and grudgingly will also reap sparingly and grudgingly, and he who sows generously [that blessings may come to someone] will also reap generously and with blessings” (2 Corinthians 9:6 AMP).
Christians should sow precious seeds that would bring great harvests. If they relate to God faithfully with what He has given them, He will make them His channel of blessings; and He will bless them to become a blessing to other people. It is important to learn, internalise, and practise the act of giving generously: “Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Cor. 9:7 NIV). We imitate God when we give bountifully. Ephesians 5:1 says, “So imitate God, as his dear children” (CJB). It is part of the way we can be in His likeness (Gen. 1:26). If you sow like Solomon, you will reap like him too.
- Develop the attitude of giving bountifully, and you reap much goodness.
- Lord, give me the grace to give to you plentifully.
