TEXT: EXODUS 3:1-12
MEMORY VERSE: “So, now go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.” Genesis 3:10 NIV
0 And the apostles, when they had returned, told Him all that they had done. Then He took them and went aside privately into a deserted place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. 11 But when the multitudes knew it, they followed Him; and He received them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who had need of healing. 12 When the day began to wear away, the twelve came and said to Him, “Send the multitude away, that they may go into the surrounding towns and country, and lodge and get provisions; for we are in a deserted lace ”
Moses had lived as a fugitive in Midian for forty years. Recall he had to flee Egypt following a crime of murder. On the day God called him to ministry, he was taking his father-in-law’s flock to the grazing site. To his surprise, the greenleaves he had sighted, from which he wanted his animals to feed were in flames, though the leaves were not affected.
His attention was diverted, as he turned to watch this strange event. Then the Lord spoke. There was also a command thathe remove his shoes. Finally, the commission: “… I will send thee to Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring my people out ofEgypt.”
Note, God did not say, “Come tomorrow, come next week, or go and resign your appointment with Jethro and come.” But God said, “Come now…….” What with Abraham? God simply told him to “Get out of …” (Gen. 12). AndAbraham obeyed. Note also the call of the disciples by Jesus. In Matthew 4:18-21, Simon Peter, Andrew, James and John were called in the same manner: “Come follow me.”
How about the call of Elisha by Elijah (1 Kings 19:19-21). Elisha quickly closed down his flourishing agro-allied business and followed Elijah.
Note also that Moses did not even give excuses concerning his wife and children. He simply responded to God’s call.Jethro only had to send them to him, long after he had answered God’s call. Little wonder Jesus re-emphasized on theurgency of discipleship in Luke 9:23.
Child of God, are you listening? Has God called you to duty? What is your response? Or are you still full of excuses.Beware! God’s time waits for no one.
- In Jonah Chapter 1, we see how Jonah flouted God’s call, and went to a different direction. We also remember the consequences in Chapter 2. Are you like Jonah? Please change.
- Lord Jesus, please grant me the will to obey you always.
