TEXT: LUKE 24:13-35
MEMORY VERSE: “Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all the prophets have spoken” (Luke 24:25 KJV).
God does not hide His plans from His people. He told Abraham the things He was going to do in the life of his descendants (Gal. 3:8). He said, “Shall I hide from Abraham [My friend and servant] what I am going to do” (Gen. 18:17 AMP).
God reveals His will through seasoned prophets. However, it is difficult to ascertain the true prophets today. But we can know them through the kind of things they do, and by their way of life: “You will know them by their fruits” (Matt. 7:16 NKJV).
True prophets of God should be taken seriously. They are God’s mouthpiece who reveal His intentions. The prophecies of the scriptures are God’s word, and should be taken totally, and imbibed. The word of God, as written in the New Testament gospels, epistles, and Revelation were written under the influence and inspiration of the Holy Spirit: For prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit” (2 Peter 1:21 NKJV).
Generally, the prophets of God revealed to us God’s plans for the future. But very importantly, they also admonish us against sin and wrong doing. They warn us of the consequences of disobedience to the word and commandment of God. They show us God’s ways and how He wants us to conduct our life. They remind us of His instructions, the need for us to love and fear Him, and respect His precepts and abide by them.
Let us cultivate the habit of searching the scriptures continually. We would enrich ourselves with the knowledge of God through His word. The Holy Spirit would lead us into the secret things of God, and teach us deep things we should know. We would be able to understand God easily and follow His ways.
- Respect the words revealed by prophets, for they are God’s word.
- Lord, give understanding in the secret things of your kingdom.
