TEXT: 2 CORINTHIANS 8:1-15
MEMORY VERSE: “But just as you excel in everything – in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in your love for us, see also that you also excel in the grace of your giving.” 2 Corinthians 8:7 NIV
Many people are in serious financial difficulty. The problem of financial hardship is not mainly because of famine, the town you are living in, educational qualification, position, or no connection with highly placed people. The problem is with your ignorance in the covenant God has with His children.
Genesis 8:22 is succinctly clear on giving: “While the earth remaineth, seed time and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter and day and night shall not cease” (KJV).
We also find the law of sowing and reaping in 2 Corinthians 9:6: “But this I say, he which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly, and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.”
It is clear that Paul is talking to the Church of Christ about their giving, mainly, to the work of God. We cannot out-give as He will never surcharge us if we sow in His house. We should forget our circumstances when we are giving for God’s work because “He that observeth the wind shall not sow.”
The benefits of giving to God:
You give to provoke God to action – 1 Kings 3:3-15
Those who sow in tears shall reap in joy – Psalm 126:5
It is more blessed to give than to take – Psalm 40:1-2
When you give, you are giving to Jesus – Matthew 25:40
When we give for God’s work, we are investing – Proverb 22:9
Giving to orphans and widows will attract more blessings – James 1:27; Matthew 5:42
God will rebuke the devourer for your sake and bless you – Malachi 3:10-12
