TEXT: EZEKIEL 5:5-12
MEMORY VERSE: “Wherefore, as I live, saith the Lord God; surely, because thou hast defiled my sanctuary with all thy detestable things, and with all thine abominations, therefore will I also diminish thee; neither shall mine eye spare, neither will I have any pity” (Ezekiel 5:11 KJV).
Israel’s sin and wickedness were so much that they became an abomination before God. Their wickedness was so great that they could not even keep the laws of the heathen nations around them, not to talk of God’s laws. In the Old Testament era, it was a serious sin to defile the Temple, God’s dwelling place, by worshipping idols and practicing evil within its very walls. God punished them for these sins. God would do whatever He said He would do. He follows through on His word.
In the New Testament, our body is His temple (1 Corinthians 6:19). Like the Israelites, we defile God’s temple (our body) by indulging in various sins. Again, like the Israelites, too many people ignore God’s warnings, treating them as empty threats. But what God threatens, He does. We must not make the mistake of thinking God does not really mean what He says. In what way are you defiling His temple (which you are)? Also, we must be careful not to defile the physical alter of God in the church. It is a specially mapped out area, usually consecrated and revered more than the other parts inside the church.
Immorality is multiplying daily. Today, Satan is in the business of ‘baptizing’ sins and releasing them into the world, as good and many believers adopt them; they say “it doesn’t matter.” Satan invents, and keeps inventing new sinful ideas while branding them as good. For example, only mad people wear thorn dresses, but it is now a fashion for today’s ‘Big Boys’ and ‘Big Girls’, even parents; lust is now love; the ‘Big Boys’ wear ear rings; ladies wear clothes that expose their bodies, etc. These defile us – God’s temple.
- Evaluate your life style and see if you are defiling your body (God’s temple)
- If yes, ask God for forgiveness and abstain from such life style.
