TEXT: JEREMIAH 30:1-3 & 10-22
MEMORY VERSE: “Thus speaketh the Lord God of Israel, saying, Write thee all the words that I have spoken unto thee in a book” (Jeremiah 30:2).
Jeremiah was God’s prophet and messenger. God instructed him to write down in a book every word He had spoken to him. What do we learn here? When we examine the features of written document, we would understand the importance of God’s written word.
Written documents are undeniable, and carry an assurance. They are reference points and indelible reminders; refresh the mind of forgotten details; highly reliable for facts and truth; usually taken seriously, and people are naturally committed to it.
Today, we are privileged to have a written document known as the Holy Bible. One of the foremost gains is that it is an instructional manual for all generations. The content does not change or differ. It is to be taken seriously. Our attitude towards it would determine the kind of life we live, our relationship with God, and our sensitivity to the principles it contains. It is an important guide in all respects. In our pilgrim’s journey on earth, we need such a guide, so that we would be travelling on the right routes. The word of God was written to make us sensible and wise in the ways of God. Romans 15:4 says, “For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that through patience and through comfort of the scriptures we might have hope” (ASV). It is our study guide.
In our memory verse today, God is calling our attention to the need for us to pay particular attention to what He has said in His word. Let us fall in love with the word of God. It would take care of everything concerning our lifestyle, behaviour, actions, reactions, reasoning, attitude, and much more. It is also our great defence against the power of sin. We need it more than anything else to win the war against our souls.
- Make God’s word your bosom friend and ensure that nothing separates both of you.
- Lord, be gracious to us and give us the grace to live by your word, in Jesus name.
