ESOCS Devotional 21 August
TEXT: Revelation 14: 1-12
MEMORY VERSE: “They sang as it were a new song before the throne … and no man could learn that song except the hundred and forty and four thousand who were redeemed from the earth. These are the ones who were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are the ones who follow the Lamb whithersoever he goes.” Revelation 14:3-4
They sang a new song, which no man could learn except the 144 thousand of the saints around the throne of God. They are described as virgins who had not defiled themselves with women; and that they were those that followed our Lord Jesus wherever He went; the ones that were redeemed. This was a glorious throng – shining like diamond stars in the sky. They had won the race for the eternal kingdom. They were pilgrims who, like us now, walked the length and breadth of this earth in the time past. They did not allow their souls to be corrupted with the unfruitful things in the earth. They walked and lived in holiness, righteousness, a pure heart, and clean hands. Therefore, today they have ascended the hill of the Lord and are standing in His holy place (Ps. 24:3-4).
Men could not understand the song because they were not one with God. They did not have the Spirit of Christ in them. They had not been cleansed. They were still in flesh and blood. In other words, the word of God was not in them. They were far away from the God. Consequently, they did not have the benefit of God’s redemption plan for them. They didn’t seek the kingdom of God first (Matt. 6:33). They sought the world and all the unprofitable things it could give. At the end, they lost Christ, the kingdom of God, and every good thing else.

But the triumphant saints are not like them. They would remain around the throne of God singing new songs of joy and praise forever. They would never lack any good thing because the joy of the Lord would remain with them perpetually. This is the hope of all people who are looking forward to the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with great expectancy. Let us walk with Him every step of the way. Let us trust Him with our souls and our eternity. He will safely lead us home to the Father. Let us learn to walk with Him every day and we would not have regrets in the end. A line in a lovely Christian hymn says: And let us freely make him our choice. Of course, there is no other choice. Let us give Him everything we own: our hearts, our minds, our lives, our spirits, our souls, our possessions, and every other thing else.
