ESOCS Devotional 20 November 2025 – God’s Righteousness and Our Rewards
MEMORY VERSE: ““God is not unrighteous to forget your work.” Hebrews 6:10
TEXT: HEBREWS 6:10-20
For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister. 11 And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end, 12 that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
13 For when God made a promise to Abraham, because He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself, 14 saying, “Surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply you.” 15 And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise. 16 For men indeed swear by the greater, and an oath for confirmation is for them an end of all dispute. 17 Thus God, determining to show more abundantly to the heirs of promise the immutability of His counsel, confirmed it by an oath, 18 that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us.
19 This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil, 20 where the forerunner has entered for us, even Jesus, having become High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.

Life doesn’t seem fair, does it? How often do you feel like all those around you are getting the one thing you want? People might not treat you fairly, including co-workers, family members and complete strangers. But God? He is a fair and just God. Hebrews 6:10 says, “God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.”
Are you feeling forgotten today? Are you tired of praying because your prayers aren’t being answered? Are you tired of asking because your circumstances haven’t changed? Are you tired of serving faithfully, tithing, loving others, and being obedient to Christ?
It’s easy to get discouraged, especially if you have been in a long wait; but God is a fair and just God. He hasn’t forgotten you. He hasn’t overlooked you. He isn’t mad at you. He isn’t disappointed in you. Instead, He knows your every heartbeat. He sees how well you serve your community. He knows that you have placed your faith in Him. He is thankful for your obedience. Don’t let the lack of praise and rewards distract you from trusting that God loves you and is for you.
God doesn’t want you to become lazy because you haven’t seen justice manifest or received answers to your prayers – “Through faith and patience inherit what has been promised” (Heb. 6:12). Remain faithful to God in all you do and all you say. People might disappoint you and they might treat you unjustly. But there is one person who never will and that is your heavenly Father. Press forward and trust that you will inherit what has been promised at just the perfect time; and whatever you go through know that God is always fair.
Apostle Paul refers to the righteousness of God to encourage us to continue in our work. God’s righteousness is spoken of all through the Bible. “He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he” (Deut. 32:4). Abraham used the righteousness of God when he asked God to spare Sodom. Abraham said, “Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?” (Genesis 18:25). To connect the righteousness of God and recognition of our works brings us great comfort. We should never doubt that God will reward us for the work we do for Him! Knowing that God is righteous encourages us as we work for Him. He will reward us because He always does what is right! “God is not unrighteous to forget your work” (Heb. 6:10). The rewards we receive now are a good enough reason to continue working hard for God in the Church. But God in His grace will give us more rewards in Christ’s coming Kingdom. But as it is written, “Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man the things which God hath prepared for them that love him” (I Cor. 2:9). Again, “And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give to every man according as his work shall be” (Rev. 22:12).
