TEXT: EXODUS 2:1-25
MEMORY VERSE: “So Moses was content to dwell with the man. And he gave Moses Zipporah his daughter.” Exodus 2:21 KJV
0 And the apostles, when they had returned, told Him all that they had done. Then He took them and went aside privately into a deserted place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. 11 But when the multitudes knew it, they followed Him; and He received them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who had need of healing. 12 When the day began to wear away, the twelve came and said to Him, “Send the multitude away, that they may go into the surrounding towns and country, and lodge and get provisions; for we are in a deserted lace ”
When Moses was declared ‘wanted’ in Egypt, following the accidental murder of an Egyptian official, he fled to Midian. While in Midian, his decent and upright qualities endeared him to Jethro (Priest of Midian), who accommodated him. In course of time, Jethro gave him one of his daughters in marriage. It is interesting to recall that Jethro had seven daughters. Moses also worked closely with these girls, without misbehaving towards the girls.
Compare with the case of Jacob in Haram. Having fled from his brother over theft of birth right, he escaped to Haram. Also in Haram, he cunningly converted a substantial number of Laban’s livestock. He also fled from Haram, for fear of Laban’s sons. Needless to talk about his “acquisition and conversion” of four women to wives. (Genesis 29, 30, 31). God Himself, also would not deal with him – bearing a tainted name ‘Jacob.’ (Genesis 32:28-29). This was changed to “Israel” for him to qualify for God’s blessings.
Joseph was quite unlike Jacob. More like Moses (Gen. 39 – 41). Who knows what would have happened to his dreams, if he had consented to Potiphar’s wife’s immoral demands. Little wonder the man of wisdom asserts that a good name is tobe preferred to silver and gold (Prov. 22:1).
As believers, the way we live and do things speak volumes. The life we live out is a greater evangelism than words of mouth. Let us with our manners and faithfulness to God and man call others to the fold.
- In these days and age, believers are no more conscious of working and waiting for God’s blessings to come. They rather think they should grab it by force, by crook or foul means. Discuss.
- O Lord, grant me the grace to work and wait patiently for reward to come.
