TEXT: GENESIS 24:1-27
MEMORY VERSE:
“And he said, blessed be the LORD God of my master Abraham, who hath not left my master of his mercy and his truth: I being in the way, the LORD led me to the house of my master’s brethren” (Genesis 24:27 KJV).
Our text today is a clear example of the power of prayer. I want you to notice the characteristics of Abraham’s eldest servant’s prayer; what made it work. It was personal – that is, it was offered within the context of authentic relationship. While God can answer the prayers of anyone He wants, the only people whose prayers He has promised to hear and answer are of those who are in relationship with Him. It was purposeful – So many of our prayers lack actual specifics.
We pray that God would bless all the missionaries, would help the poor and comfort the afflicted. That’s not how Abraham’s servant prayed. He had a specific purpose in mind when He prayed. He was intentional. He went to God with a purpose weighing heavily on his heart. It was positional – That is, Abraham’s servant used his position as intercessor and mediator to go to God on behalf of his master. It was passionate – We know from the verse 12, that Abraham’s servant was offering the prayer with all of his heart because he was bent on accomplishing his master’s task and he knew his master’s relationship with God.
Are you doing anything which you think will escape God’s attention? Are you slowly but surely drifting away from God, wandering from the intimacy which you once had with Him? You can get back into fellowship. Is your view of God limited? Have you been deceived into believing that prayer doesn’t really change things? Beloved, don’t let anyone or anything steal that most precious resource from you. God hears our prayers and answers them.
- What are those things that will make your prayer not to be answered and how can you rectify them?
- Father, rekindle my prayer life and relationship with you to enable my prayers to be answered, in Jesus’ name.
