TEXT: JEREMIAH 30:10-12
MEMORY VERSE: “Therefore fear thou not, O my servants Jacob, saith the LORD; neither be dismayed, O Israel: for, lo, I will save thee from afar, and thy seed from their land of captivity; and Jacob shall return, and shall be in rest, and be quiet, and none shall make him afraid.” Jeremiah 30:10 KJV
0 And the apostles, when they had returned, told Him all that they had done. Then He took them and went aside privately into a deserted place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. 11 But when the multitudes knew it, they followed Him; and He received them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who had need of healing. 12 When the day began to wear away, the twelve came and said to Him, “Send the multitude away, that they may go into the surrounding towns and country, and lodge and get provisions; for we are in a deserted lace ”
Fear seems to be a major problem of people, even Gods people. We see in scriptures several times how God’s servants expressed and sometimes confessed their fears. Abraham was afraid and said Sara was his sister, just to avoid being killed. His son Isaac did the same thing to his wife. Moses told God he could not speak, just because he was afraid of going back to Egypt. Joshua expressed his fears when he was to take over from Moses, and God had to address his fears head-on. Many men God chose as prophets also expressed their fears at some points in their lives. The list goes on right down to the New Testament.
Severally, God told His people, especially in the Old Testament, “Fear not”. This is one of the things God addresses in the life of any one He intends to use. Many times at His appearing to them, He tells them not to fear. For some, as situations unfold along their walk, God needs to step in again and assure them that He is with them, and that they need not be afraid.
In our society today, there are so many things to make us afraid and scare us away from the promises of God. The Red Sea was a cause of great fear and obstacle; but beyond was the promise and blessings of God (the Promised Land). Whenever fear comes, beyond it lies something precious.
Fear brings about anxiety, restlessness, parallelism, confusion and loss of focus. It is therefore no friend of the child of God. The book of Timothy makes it clear that we have not been given the spirit of fear but of power and of a sound mind.
Are you passing through circumstances that appear to be the shadow of death? Fear not. Are you facing what looks like a mountain? Fear not. Are you facing a Red Sea, a Goliath, fear not, for the Lord is with you.
- Arise today and rebuke the spirit of fear and walk in the boldness of the Lord.
- Father, by your own authority I cast away fear from my heart, in Jesus name.
