TEXT: JOHN 3:12-16
MEMORY VERSE: “That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.” John 3:15
0 And the apostles, when they had returned, told Him all that they had done. Then He took them and went aside privately into a deserted place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. 11 But when the multitudes knew it, they followed Him; and He received them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who had need of healing. 12 When the day began to wear away, the twelve came and said to Him, “Send the multitude away, that they may go into the surrounding towns and country, and lodge and get provisions; for we are in a deserted lace ”
Eternal life is the version of life experience that Christians undergo both here in the world and after death. It is a life powered by the Holy Spirit of God.
The starting point of eternal life is to go for the gospel message of salvation through Jesus Christ. You must hear and agree with it (vs. 12-14).
Jesus Christ is the gift of God to the world. By the sin of Adam and Eve man got entangled with sin and its consequences (eternal death). But through the death of Jesus Christ on the cross at Calvary, the price of our sins has been paid. We shall no longer be part of eternal death (Romans 8:12). This is the love of God in action.
We pay nothing to have access to Christ and the salvation He has brought us. All that is needed from us is to believe in Him. This means to agree that He came from God, and to accept Him as Lord over our lives. There is no limitation and no discrimination. The access is open to everyone that believes. Part of verse 16 says, “… that whosoever believes in him should not …”
The benefit thereof is eternal life and freedom from the effect of demonic operation. This is conveyed to us through the Holy Spirit. The Spirit of God enables us to live righteously and enjoy eternal protection and pleasure. With this eternal version of life, we are free from spiritual bondage and eternal damnation. It is total freedom and an experience of divine pleasure. Verse 16 says in part: “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believes in him should… have eternal life” (Rom. 8:1, 2).
The hallmark of our faith in Christ is to enter into the kingdom of God. Let us be sure that we are truly converted to Christ. No sinner has eternal life in him.
- Have you received eternal life? Do you have a feel of it?
- Father, may the joy of eternal life continue to dwell in me. Thank you for your love and mercy, in Jesus Name. Amen.
