ESOCS Devotional 2 October
TEXT: ACTS 12: 1-13 KJV
MEMORY VERSE: “And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not faint.” “And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not faint.” Luke 18:1
In Acts 12: 6, we see that though Herod had taken every precaution to ensure that Peter does not escape, God still went ahead to prove His mighty power, following the fervent prayer of the church. Christians must remember that the power of man or even Satan does not compare with the power of God. There is power in prayer simply because the power of God is able to accomplish exceedingly abundantly more than we can imagine (Eph. 3:20).
St. Paul, having experimented with the power of prayer – even in prison (Acts 16:25-26), admonished believers to “pray without ceasing” (1 Thess. 5:17). Prayer is the greatest weapon made available to the Church and to all believers in Christ. Jesus Himself started with prayer (Matt. 4:2), and ended with prayer (Luke 2:41-42).

In our text today, we see that though Apostle James had just been killed, the church was not deterred when Peter was also arrested to be killed by Herod. They prayed ceaselessly, until they got result, and Peter was released miraculously. So pray always and faint not, no matter the odds.
CHALLENGES
- In Acts 16.25, we see that Paul and Silas in this condition of severe stress resorted to fervent prayers and praise. Could you have done the same, or just resign to fate and sob?
PRAYER POINT
- Dear Lord, give me the grace to pray even as Paul and Silas did in times of great challenges. Amen.
