ESOCS Devotional 2 November
TEXT: 1 THESSALONIANS 2:1-20 KJV
MEMORY VERSE: “We were bold in our God to speak unto you the gospel of God with much contention.” 1 Thessalonians 2:2b KJV
This text teaches us why boldness is very necessary, where you can get it, and what has to happen inside of you in order to be a bold person.
Boldness is necessary for godliness and particularly needful for all who have a part in the ministry. Unless you are bold in God, you will not be able to stand with Him and hold on to your faith in very trying times. Boldness produces in you a readiness to endure tribulation with joy in the Holy Spirit. It takes boldness to be able to speak the gospel with courage, without error, or deceit, but as approved by God to please Him. It makes our lives effective, fruitful, and significant; and brings change into people’s lives. It leads them on towards Christ and His Kingdom.
Where do you get boldness? Paul’s answer is clear: you get it in God. His life was hidden in God (Colossians 3:3). He trusted God (2 Corinthians 1: 9). He hoped in God (Romans 15: 13). So all his boldness was in God, and not in him; and that has been the source of all the boldness of all the martyrs.

Thirdly, what must happen inside of you in order to be bold? Paul emphasized two things you need to do, if you will be bold in the things of God. You need to break free from dependence on human acceptance and praise and from the love of comforts and securities that money can buy. Paul became bold because he overcame both these. (I Thessalonians 2: 4b – 6). The way to freedom is to get your acceptance from God and your praise from God as well as your comforts and security from God so that you will be equipped with boldness from the throne of Grace.
CHALLENGES
- What is responsible for your inability to be bold in our God?
PRAYER POINT
