MEMORY VERSE: “To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace”.Luke 1:79
TEXT: PSALM 122:1-7 (KJV)
I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord.
2 Our feet shall stand within thy gates, O Jerusalem.
3 Jerusalem is builded as a city that is compact together:
4 Whither the tribes go up, the tribes of the Lord, unto the testimony of Israel, to give thanks unto the name of the Lord.
5 For there are set thrones of judgment, the thrones of the house of David.
6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee.
7 Peace be within thy walls, and prosperity within thy palaces.

The call to prayer is an invitation to a life of peace and prosperity. Prayer is a covenant platform that guarantees access to peaceful and prosperous existence. Prayerlessness is the door way to crisis and penury. Hence, any opportunity to pray should not be treated with laxity or carelessness.
The first Sunday of July yearly is set aside by the church as prayers for the Peace of Jerusalem. This is instructive as Jerusalem is the centre and headquarters of the world Christianity. The implication being that any prayer directed towards Jerusalem is by extension a cover for the entire Christian community worldwide. Praying for the peace of Jerusalem is equally praying for the peace of the church, our nations and families.
Thus, it becomes imperative that we all wholeheartedly partake in this prayer at all levels. Not just because it was commanded, but it is a necessity and here are a few of such:
- Peace arrest wars and creates an atmosphere of calmness. When we pray, territorial powers bow, crisis, wars and in-fighting are terminated; the spirit of competitive jealousy is arrested. Absolute tranquility is instituted in all spheres of life. Prayer arrests, frustrates and disappoints every force that sponsors troubles and disorder in the land.
- Peace allows for wealth inflow. Finances flow in the direction of peace. It is a major magnet for financial prosperity. Interestingly, Peace gives the wealth durability and closes the door to unnecessary expenses. Frankly speaking, money does not last where peace is absent, whether in the family, church, community or national front.
- Peace answers to development: Nothing attracts development like peace. Infrastructural, human capital developments, etc. are all products of peace. Anyone desirous of rapid and sustained development must first promote peace in his/her environment.
- Peace affirms a healthy existence: A peaceful environment is a healthy environment. The state of your personal health or the health of the church and the nation is directly proportional to the available peace. Peace is the cure to several sicknesses and diseases people suffer.
Conclusively, when you pray, you access peace that brings prosperity.
- Fill your heart with love and walk in it. Pray in unity and consciously pursue peace with all men.
- Lord, we are grateful for the instruction to pray and the opportunity to connect peace and prosperity. Grant us the grace to walk in the light in Jesus Name, Amen.
