ESOCS Devotional 2 April 2026 – The Glory of His Coming
MEMORY VERSE: “At that time people will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory.” Mark 13:26 NIV
TEXT:MARK 13: 14-27
“So when you see the ‘abomination of desolation,’ spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not” (let the reader understand), “then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 15 Let him who is on the housetop not go down into the house, nor enter to take anything out of his house. 16 And let him who is in the field not go back to get his clothes. 17 But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! 18 And pray that your flight may not be in winter. 19 For in those days there will be tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the creation which God created until this time, nor ever shall be. 20 And unless the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake, whom He chose, He shortened the days.
21 “Then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or, ‘Look, He is there!’ do not believe it. 22 For false christs and false prophets will rise and show signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. 23 But take heed; see, I have told you all things beforehand.
24 “But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; 25 the stars of heaven will fall, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken. 26 Then they will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds with great power and glory. 27 And then He will send His angels, and gather together His [c]elect from the four winds, from the farthest part of earth to the farthest part of heaven.

The promise of Jesus’ return is one of the greatest sources of hope for every believer. In Mark 13:26, Jesus describes His second coming, not in humility as He came the first time, but in great power and glory. This future event will not be hidden or quiet; it will be a visible, unmistakable manifestation of divine majesty.
Unlike His first coming, where He was born in a lowly manger and walked the earth in humility, His Second Coming will display His full authority as King of kings and Lord of lords. The clouds will part, and all will see the Son of Man returning in His heavenly splendour. For the faithful, this will be a moment of joy, vindication, and eternal reward. For those who have rejected Him, it will be a moment of great reckoning.
This truth should shape how we live each day. The knowledge of Christ’s return calls us to live in readiness, with hearts surrendered, lives purified, and hands busy with Kingdom work. The glory of His coming is not meant to scare us but to anchor our hope and stir our devotion. He is coming again, glorious, victorious, and faithful to all His promises!
Reflections
- Do I live daily with the expectation of Christ’s glorious return?
- How does the promise of Jesus’ coming affect my choices, priorities, and relationships?
- Am I prepared to meet Jesus face-to-face, or am I delaying surrender in some area of my life?
- In what ways can I share the hope of Christ’s return with others around me?
Action Step:
Spend time today reflecting on the reality of Christ’s return. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any areas of your life that need to be realigned with eternity. Look for an opportunity to share this hope with someone who may not know it yet.
Prayer
- Lord Jesus, thank you for the promise of your glorious return. Help me to live in constant readiness, with a heart full of hope and a life devoted to your purposes.
- Cleanse me of distractions and draw me deeper into your truth.
- May I not only long for your coming, but also help others be ready to meet you. Come, Lord Jesus. Amen.
