MEMORY VERSE: ““Speak now in the ears of the people, and let every man borrow of his neighbour, and every woman of her neighbour, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold.” Exodus 11:2
TEXT: EXODUS 11:1-10
And the Lord said to Moses, “I will bring one more plague on Pharaoh and on Egypt. Afterward he will let you go from here. When he lets you go, he will surely drive you out of here altogether. 2 Speak now in the hearing of the people, and let every man ask from his neighbor and every woman from her neighbor, articles of silver and articles of gold.” 3 And the Lord gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians. Moreover the man Moses was very great in the land of Egypt, in the sight of Pharaoh’s servants and in the sight of the people.
4 Then Moses said, “Thus says the Lord: ‘About midnight I will go out into the midst of Egypt; 5 and all the firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sits on his throne, even to the firstborn of the female servant who is behind the handmill, and all the firstborn of the animals. 6 Then there shall be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, such as was not like it before, nor shall be like it again. 7 But against none of the children of Israel shall a dog move its tongue, against man or beast, that you may know that the Lord does make a difference between the Egyptians and Israel.’ 8 And all these your servants shall come down to me and bow down to me, saying, ‘Get out, and all the people who follow you!’ After that I will go out.” Then he went out from Pharaoh in great anger.
9 But the Lord said to Moses, “Pharaoh will not heed you, so that My wonders may be multiplied in the land of Egypt.” 10 So Moses and Aaron did all these wonders before Pharaoh; and the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he did not let the children of Israel go out of his land.

All those years the Israelites spent living as slaves bounded in the land of Egypt, we could as well assume that they went through what every slave/servant would have gone through, not being paid their deserved wages, or worse still, not being paid at all. After all the plagues that the Egyptians had gone through, as a result of God showing to them that He is God Almighty, God finally decided to give them one more plague (v 2), to show His great works and the extent to which He would go to save His people from the claws of the evil ones.
Now we would all assume that the ultimate freedom for the Israelites was leaving Egypt, being free of Pharaoh’s terror and the reign of the Egyptians after over 400 years; but then again, God wasn’t done. In 1Timothy 5:18, the Scripture says, “Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer [is] worthy of his reward.” Even our God Almighty has promised us a deserved wage after our race on earth. He has promised us the highest of all wages, of all earthly goodness we can imagine – the Price of the Crown of Glory after our race here on earth, despite us being His creation, who are supposed to be willing to give our whole to Him without expecting nothing in return.
The Children of God (Israelites) had no need for the jewels of gold and silver God asked them to collect; but God Almighty was not about to let them go away empty handed and defrauded by their Masters who had abused them in their work. While the Israelites were so fond of the thoughts of liberty that they would gladly accept that without pay, our God who executes righteousness and judgement for the oppressed made sure that the laborers did not lose their hire and demanded it.
One way or the other, no matter how long it takes, our God who sees in secret and in open, would grant the earnest desires of those who have or humbly committed their cause to Him, and He will make sure that we do not suffer in vain while diligently hoping on Him. The Lord will grant His people favor in the sight of their enemies, so long as we diligently seek His word in all we do.
CHALLENGES
- Whatever it is we feel we are going through, I implore us to always have it in the deepest part of our hearts that our God is working out a way for us.
PRAYER POINT
- Heavenly Father, we pray for the grace to always believe and trust in your eternal ability to deliver us from all that is against us.
