TEXT: MATTHEW 10:24-33
MEMORY VERSE: “Sanctify the Lord of Host himself; and let him be your fear and let him be your dread” (Isaiah 7:13).
Fear is often an unpleasant strong emotion caused by anticipation or awareness of danger. It is profound reverence and awe, especially towards God. Different people fear different things in life. Some fear spiritual harm, affliction, sorcery, black magic or negative conditions caused by the kingdom of darkness. Others are afraid of other human beings who have some advantages over them or people who have some superiority or privileges over them, as they leverage on certain potentials of class, societies, secrets in their ways or disposition.
In the circular world, a staff fears or respects his boss. A student fears his teacher, the same happens all through the ladder. People are afraid of harm, sickness, and also accident, misfortune or spiritual afflictions. Today in the world, the fear of COVID-19 has locked down the world. Everybody is confined to the four walls of his house.
However, Ecclesiastes 12:13 clearly tells us whom to fear: “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandment: for this is the whole duty of man.” This further Deuteronomy 10:12 says, “And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you? He requires only that you fear the Lord your God, and live in a way that pleases him, and love him and serve him with all your heart and soul.”
Imbibing the fear of the Lord as a culture is the best thing anyone can do for himself. Such a person would enjoy God’s protection and blessings, just like Job because he would not live a life of sin; and no one can harm him. He would have no one to fear.
- To fear God leads to holiness and righteousness; and it’s worth much more than gold.
- Father grant me the grace to fear you earnestly
