TEXT: Hebrews 6: 1-9 KJV
MEMORY VERSE: “Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith towards God.” Hebrews 6: 1 KJV
Perfection is the doctrine of Christ Jesus and it aims at protecting Christians from evil, motivate them to obedience, inspire them to work, and encourage them to reverence and worship God. Christians are therefore exhorted to go on unto perfection in order to be able to grow into maturity in the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Perfection will also train Christians to run the race well and help them become efficient in recognizing true teaching from false teaching so as to avoid falling away. The primary essence of going on unto perfection is because it is almost impossible to re-awaken those who fall away, since they will be crucifying to themselves the Son of God afresh (Hebrews 10:29-31).
The major causes of inability to grow into maturity and go on unto perfection are dullness of hearing (Hebrews 5: 12), unskillfulness in the word of righteousness due to immaturity (Hebrews 5:13), and lack of exercise to discern good from evil (Hebrews 5:14).
The consequences of lack of maturity in the word can lead to falling away from God (Hebrews 6:4); they could lose their anchor of the soul, i.e., they could lose the hope that is set before them (Heb. 6:17–19).
