ESOCS Devotional 19 May 2025 – Victory in Christ Jesus
MEMORY VERSE: “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.” Revelation 12:11
TEXT: REVELATION 12: 1-11
Now a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a garland of twelve stars. 2 Then being with child, she cried out in labor and in pain to give birth.
3 And another sign appeared in heaven: behold, a great, fiery red dragon having seven heads and ten horns, and seven diadems on his heads. 4 His tail drew a third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was ready to give birth, to devour her Child as soon as it was born. 5 She bore a male Child who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron. And her Child was caught up to God and His throne. 6 Then the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, that they should feed her there one thousand two hundred and sixty days.
7 And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, 8 but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer. 9 So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
10 Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. 11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the

This world is full of challenges. Everyone on earth requires victory, more so, Christians. This is because the devil, the old dragon is after our downfall. In today’s text, where dragon went after the child but missed. Next, he went after the woman and missed her also; and furthermore, he went after the people of the woman who were faithful unto God to make war against them. The old dragon represents Satan. He is determined to wage war against anyone that stands with and for God. However, following the example of the angels that fought him out of heaven, we are sure to have victory always against him in Christ Jesus!
Beloved, we will discuss briefly three areas that helped them to overcome the old dragon.
1. The Blood of the Lamb: This is the blood of the Lamb of God that took away the sins of the world (John 1:29; Matt.. 26:28). It’s the same blood that washes us from sin (Rev. 1:5; Heb. 9:14, 1 Jn.1:7). Sin is one of the major factors through which the enemy, Satan finds power against us. But if we deal with sin and defeat it, his power over us is weakened. A true child of God exercises Christ’s authority and power and manifests His victory by living above sin and iniquity. This is an identity of true believers – they live above sin and iniquity, remain in fellowship with God and maintain their salvation in Christ.
2. Word of their testimony: This is confessing Christ Jesus as Lord. We must, as of necessity profess our faith and truly believe in Christ Jesus always. There should not be any shadow of doubt in us that we are saved in Christ Jesus. Hebrews 10:23says, “Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised).” Our lifestyle must align with God’s word; otherwise, our confession would be fake, and powerless.
3. They loved not their lives unto death: Holding unto Jesus should be more important than maintaining our lives our own way in this world; for it is the substance we gain in Jesus that we use in nourishing our lives here on earth. We should not allow anything to threaten us or entice us away from our faith in Christ. He is the life and the way of life to us (John 14:6).
