TEXT: EPHESIANS 3:1-13
MEMORY VERSE: “and if you read what I have written, you can learn about my understanding of the secret of Christ” (Ephesians 3:4 GNT)..
Apostle Paul taught the Ephesian Christians (and us today) that it is important to read the scriptures, study them, and digest the messages. All scriptures lead to the knowledge of Christ: His person, divinity, mission, passion for lost souls, death, and resurrection. Unless we read, we would not study; and if we do not study, we would not know; and what we do not know, we cannot practise. But the most important thing in our relationship with God is to know Him, understand His ways, and live by His word; that is, doing His word and will.
The Bible encourages us to be diligent to ensure that the kind of life we live is acceptable to God. We can do this only if we know His word, understand it, and be able to analyse it properly to the extent that we apply it to our life practically (2 Tim. 2:15); that is, we conduct our affairs and life by God’s word, strictly.
When we learn the scriptures, imbibe the teachings, and practice them, we would learn to love and fear God. He would expose His secrets to us: “The secret of the Lord is with those who fear Him, And He will show them His covenant” (Ps. 25:14 NKJV). His secrets are always for our wellbeing. We need them more than anything else in life.
Paul had “understanding of the secret of Christ.” For this reason, he was able to walk with the Lord throughout his life. Like him, we should crave to know Christ more and more (Phil. 3:10). Let us study the scripture thoroughly so that we may be deeply acquainted with Christ. Such knowledge would guide us rightly in our daily living. We would grow in Spirit, and be like Him. This the essence of the scriptures. Let’s not forget.
- How often do you read and study the Holy Bible? Try to do it regularly.
- Lord, create in me the hunger for your word. I need your help.
