ESOCS Devotional 19 June 2021

TEXT: MARK 4:1-20

MEMORY VERSE: “And he began again to teach by the seaside: and there was gathered unto him a great multitude, so that he entered into a ship, and sat in the sea; and the whole multitude was by the sea on the land” (Mark 4:1 KJV).

Jesus was sitting in a ship and doing the Father’s will, and His work. He was always at His duty post. His attitude to work was very significant: it must be done. He said, “My Father is working until now, and I am working” (John 5:17 ESV); and “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work” (John 4:34 NKJV). He utilised every opportunity offered to ensure that He preached or taught people about the Kingdom of God. He did the work with passion, for the gospel is a war enacted to save the souls of men and women; a war He had come to fight, and win.

Determination is a very important tool in any venture or business. We should imitate our Lord in this thing in all aspects of our life. First, in our kingdom race, to win it. Second, in our businesses and careers, to succeed and excel. In health matters, to maintain healthy standards at all times. We should be determined that our marriage would be peaceful and blissful; and that no one (including us) tears it apart. We should be determined to obey God’s word and moderate our life by it. Determination is key factor.

We should spread of the gospel with zeal, and not be passive about it; draw people away from the world to Christ, and help them serve the Lord without distraction (1 Cor. 7:35). He drew the crowd away from the city to the sea side to teach them about God, and His kingdom.

  • Take God’s work seriously and ensure you do your part well.
  • Father, grant me the grace to work for you as I ought to do.
