ESOCS Devotional 18 October 2023 – Go To Jesus
MEMORY VERSE: ““For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.” Luke 9:24
TEXT: GENESIS 41:46–57 (KJV)
And Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt.
47 And in the seven plenteous years the earth brought forth by handfuls.
48 And he gathered up all the food of the seven years, which were in the land of Egypt, and laid up the food in the cities: the food of the field, which was round about every city, laid he up in the same.
49 And Joseph gathered corn as the sand of the sea, very much, until he left numbering; for it was without number.
50 And unto Joseph were born two sons before the years of famine came, which Asenath the daughter of Potipherah priest of On bare unto him.
51 And Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh: For God, said he, hath made me forget all my toil, and all my father’s house.
52 And the name of the second called he Ephraim: For God hath caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction.
53 And the seven years of plenteousness, that was in the land of Egypt, were ended.
54 And the seven years of dearth began to come, according as Joseph had said: and the dearth was in all lands; but in all the land of Egypt there was bread.
55 And when all the land of Egypt was famished, the people cried to Pharaoh for bread: and Pharaoh said unto all the Egyptians, Go unto Joseph; what he saith to you, do.
56 And the famine was over all the face of the earth: and Joseph opened all the storehouses, and sold unto the Egyptians; and the famine waxed sore in the land of Egypt.
57 And all countries came into Egypt to Joseph for to buy corn; because that the famine was so sore in all lands.

In the days of challenges there is always a need to look for where to go for solutions. Some are able to go to the right channel of help. While some miss the place of help.
Here, the Egyptians were famished, they need interventions. So, they went to Pharoah their king, which by common sense, logic, political and economic sense seem right. However, when they arrive at the presence of their king, he said, help is not with him, but with Joseph. He now handles the government and economic administration of Egypt. When they went to Joseph, there, they were able to find help, when they went to him and did what he asked them to do.
Man has the greatest challenge and problems that plagues him. That great challenge, problem, threat and disaster is sin. Sin limited man. Sin made man powerless in the face of spiritual opposition. Therefore, man became subject to the wickedness of Satan. Now, man runs wicked errands for Satan against humanity. Even in church not just the world, fellow church goers have become agents of Satan within the church gathering and community. This even goes to the point that fellow believers in Christ Jesus, who are born again, spirit filled, full of faith who are not sensitive and careful spiritually have fallen into the hands of Satan and become his agents in the household of God doing the work of wickedness against the church without knowing they are serving Satan.
If the mature in Christ are falling, how much more the babes and immature, those ones have become regular vessels in hands of Satan. Evil and wickedness everywhere – world, church, families and in other relationships. All these are so because of the primary problem of man, which is sin. Man needs help, and urgently so! Unfortunately, man has gone to all the wrong places to deal with this problem. Man has sought solutions through the following – emotional satisfaction, career pursuit, good works/moral principles and religious pursuit. None of these has ever helped man but drawn him away from his solution.
So, pharaoh said, you need solutions? Go to Joseph. Beloved, Joseph is a type of Jesus Christ – a saviour. By Joseph the ruler of Egypt the world at that time were saved from hunger. Therefore, by Jesus Christ the saviour of the world, the race of humanity would and also is saved from the problem of sin.
John 1:29 says, “The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.” Jesus Christ is the solution. So, what do we do? Go to Jesus. Are you still living in sin? Consistently doing abnormal and abominable things? You need to go to Jesus for solution. Are you a one-day saint next day sinner? Go to Jesus! Are you a cold ineffective believer in Christ Jesus? Go to Jesus! Are you a Christian who is growing in grace in the Lord? If so, stay with Jesus!
- You know all your needs. Cry out to Jesus for help.
- Lord Jesus Christ, help me get deeper into your life out of every contamination of sin.
