ESOCS Devotional 18 November 2024 – Look Beyond the Skeleton
MEMORY VERSE: “And he beheld them, and said, ‘What is this that is written, the stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner?’” Luke 20:17 KJV
TEXT:: LUKE 20:9-18
Then He began to tell the people this parable: “A certain man planted a vineyard, leased it to vinedressers, and went into a far country for a long time. 10 Now at vintage-time he sent a servant to the vinedressers, that they might give him some of the fruit of the vineyard. But the vinedressers beat him and sent him away empty-handed. 11 Again he sent another servant; and they beat him also, treated him shamefully, and sent him away empty-handed. 12 And again he sent a third; and they wounded him also and cast him out.
13 “Then the owner of the vineyard said, ‘What shall I do? I will send my beloved son. Probably they will respect him when they see him.’ 14 But when the vinedressers saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, ‘This is the heir. Come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.’ 15 So they cast him out of the vineyard and killed him. Therefore what will the owner of the vineyard do to them? 16 He will come and destroy those vinedressers and give the vineyard to others.”
And when they heard it they said, “Certainly not!”
17 Then He looked at them and said, “What then is this that is written:
‘The stone which the builders rejected
Has become the chief cornerstone’?
18 Whoever falls on that stone will be broken; but on whomever it falls, it will grind him to powder.”

The age-long saying, ‘Beauty is in the eye of the beholder’, no doubt has come to stay. You can only appreciate a thing from the eye with which you look at it. The meaning of that is: If the eyes are sharp, the beauty would be crystal clear; but if the eyes are deem, then, the beauty won’t be seen at all.
The builders in our text saw only the skeleton in the stone and couldn’t look beyond it. Interestingly, by their professional ethics, they discarded the stone. It was completely rejected and written off as good for nothing. For them, the stone was not usable and so constituted a nuisance.
But beyond the skeleton in the stone, God saw a great wall. Yes! He saw a mansion. Inside the stone was standing a mighty Estate. The stone that was rejected later became the Head and Chief corner stone.
Many times, people look at us and all they see is the skeleton inside of us. They only see the shadow of what we are made up of. For them, there is no flesh in us, nothing good can come out of us. They write us off and close our life’s chapter because they feel we are unproductive and irrelevant in the scheme of things.
Hear this, “Whereas thou hast been forsaken and hated so that no man went through thee, I will make thee an eternal excellency, a joy of many generation” (Isaiah 60:15). I don’t know who has rejected and looked down on you. God is set to cover your skeleton with flesh, in the name of Jesus. That cloth of shame, reproach and mockery that made people look down on you, God is burning it off your body today, in the name of Jesus.
In this season, God is wiping your tears away and He is bringing something beautiful, wonderful and glorious out of your life. Your generation will be shocked by the product God will make out of you, in the name of Jesus. Never give up in life. God is not through with you yet. You are a product still in the making. Yes, we can confirm that you are a project in progress. When God is through with you, your world will be amazed.
- Never look down on any person; God is not through with him yet.
- Never give up on yourself, while your live, remain hopeful.
- Allow God to make you into a perfect structure.
- Father, thank you for reassuring me again by your word; make me into the product you desire for my life, in Jesus Name. Amen.
