TEXT: HEBREWS 4:1–6 KJV
MEMORY VERSE: “Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest any of you should seem to come short of it.” Hebrews 4:1 KJV
Rest is cease from work (Hebrews 4: 4).
We live in a very stressful world. Everywhere you go and find yourself, you will discover that the world is increasingly difficult and dangerous. However, in the midst of all those, Jesus promised to give us rest (Matthew 11:28–29). Some of the reasons why rest was difficult include sin (wickedness), which is the mother of unrest (Proverbs 28:1, Isaiah 57: 21, 59: 2, 48:22). Unbelief (Hebrews 3: 11), prayerlessness (Luke 18:1, Philippians 4: 6), doing your own things outside the will of God (Hebrews 4: 10), and trusting in the arms of flesh (Psalm 2:1–4, 46: 1, Proverbs 21: 29) are some other reasons.
In other to labour to enter God’s rest, you must do the following:
- Discover that rest is available for you (Hebrews 4:1).
- Decide to trust in the love of God because God is love and full of mercy (Romans 8:38–39, I John 4:16).
- Disengage from your lifestyle by changing your character, looks, and attitudes ( I Peter 5: 7).
- Have faith in His promises (John 21: 45, Psalm 34: 5, Isaiah 30: 15).
- Pray in the Holy Ghost to be refreshed.

Remember, you can only enter into rest when you believe on the finished work on the cross of Calvary and justified by faith in Him (Hebrews 4:3). No man with unbelief shall enter into God’s rest.
CHALLENGES
- Does your lifestyle depict that of belief or unbelief? Do you wish to enter into God’s rest?
PRAYER POINT
- Thank God for His rest. Beg for forgiveness of unbelief and ask that the Holy Spirit will teach you how to labour to enter into God’s rest.
