ESOCS Devotional 18 May 2025 – Prophecy!
MEMORY VERSE: “And he said unto me, Thou must prophesy again before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings.” Revelation 10:11
TEXT: REVELATION 10:1-11
I saw still another mighty angel coming down from heaven, clothed with a cloud. And a rainbow was on his head, his face was like the sun, and his feet like pillars of fire. 2 He had a little book open in his hand. And he set his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the land, 3 and cried with a loud voice, as when a lion roars. When he cried out, seven thunders uttered their voices. 4 Now when the seven thunders uttered their voices, I was about to write; but I heard a voice from heaven saying to me, “Seal up the things which the seven thunders uttered, and do not write them.”
5 The angel whom I saw standing on the sea and on the land raised up his hand to heaven 6 and swore by Him who lives forever and ever, who created heaven and the things that are in it, the earth and the things that are in it, and the sea and the things that are in it, that there should be delay no longer, 7 but in the days of the sounding of the seventh angel, when he is about to sound, the mystery of God would be finished, as He declared to His servants the prophets.
8 Then the voice which I heard from heaven spoke to me again and said, “Go, take the little book which is open in the hand of the angel who stands on the sea and on the earth.”
9 So I went to the angel and said to him, “Give me the little book.”
And he said to me, “Take and eat it; and it will make your stomach bitter, but it will be as sweet as honey in your mouth.”
10 Then I took the little book out of the angel’s hand and ate it, and it was as sweet as honey in my mouth. But when I had eaten it, my stomach became bitter. 11 And he said to me, “You must prophesy again about many peoples, nations, tongues, and kings.”

When God commands anyone to prophesy, He wants to usher a perspective. Strong’s Greek dictionary defines prophecy as a means “… to foretell events divinely, to speak under inspiration or exercise the prophetic office.” This office is exercised for God by men. When a prophet is speaking it’s assumed that God is speaking His mind through a man. The man is just a vessel for the Holy God. He speaks the mind of God, and not his own.
The Old Testament and New Testament prophecies are all about the Lord Jesus Christ – His advent as the Saviour of mankind, the image of the perfect Son of God (or the image of the perfect Man) and also as the King and Lord over God’s Kingdom and its citizens.
Having the above in mind, prophecy therefore, is the testimony of Jesus Christ (Rev 19:10). Also, Apostle Paul said prophesying brings edification, exhortation, comfort and learning (1 Cor. 14:3, 31). Therefore, any prophesying that does not bring men to edification in Christ, exhortation in Christ, comfort in Christ and learning of Christ has failed its purpose. He explained that the prophet should avoid self-glorification – for such attitude leans towards the flesh and vain glory. Some prophets may have problems with the Lord at the end of their ministry here on earth (Matt. 7:22). This is because their prophetic ministry on earth made souls to know them more than they know Christ Jesus.
Beloved, Apostle John was asked to eat the little book and that he will still prophesy before nations – (serving as an illustration to us, the question comes) – dear minister, have you eaten the word of God (Christ) enough to function by it and be able to represent Him among all humility and with sincerity before all peoples of the earth? I believe God seeks such men who are fully loyal to Him to make His servants. Men that when they appear, God is seen and not them. Be that man!
CHALLENGES
