MEMORY VERSE: ““And they shall teach no more everyman his neighbour and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD; for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.” Jeremiah 31:34
TEXT: JEREMIAH 31:31-34
“The days are coming,” declares the Lord,
“when I will make a new covenant
with the people of Israel
and with the people of Judah.
32 It will not be like the covenant
I made with their ancestors
when I took them by the hand
to lead them out of Egypt,
because they broke my covenant,
though I was a husband to them,”
declares the Lord.
33 “This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel
after that time,” declares the Lord.
“I will put my law in their minds
and write it on their hearts.
I will be their God,
and they will be my people.
34 No longer will they teach their neighbor,
or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord,’
because they will all know me,
from the least of them to the greatest,”
declares the Lord.
“For I will forgive their wickedness
and will remember their sins no more.”

Jeremiah was appointed a prophet by God to proclaim judgement upon Judah for its shameful and persistent sins (Jer. 1:10). Judah refused to heed to the warning of the prophet. He started his ministry 627 BC until the words of the prophet were fulfilled in 586 BC when Jerusalem was destroyed. Jeremiah and the people of Judah were carried to Babylon in exile. There in exile, Jeremiah received visions of promise for Judah. The LORD promised that they shall return from captivity. He will make a new covenant with them and the ultimate coming of the Messiah. Our text today speaks of the New Covenant, and we are living testimonies of the fulfilment of this prophecy.
The New Covenant is fulfilled in Jesus Christ. Those who accept Jesus Christ receive the power to be called the sons of God (John 1:12). The power is in the Holy Ghost through whom we are set free from sin and its consequences (Rom. 8:1, 2). Thus, our ability to reject sin and persist in righteous living is significant of the prophesy of Jeremiah that God will “…. put his law in our minds and write it in our hearts: as such that we are God’s people and he is our God” (Jer. 31:33).
Thus, if anyone still lives in sin and has not experienced true conversion, the offer for redemption is hereby made. Your response will be to confess your life to God and confess what God is. He is faithful in His promise to forgive your iniquity and remember your sins no more (Jer. 31:34, John 3:16). He will fill you with the power of righteousness.
- Have you accepted the Lord’s offer to you?
- Father, reveal yourself more and more in my life, in Jesus name. Amen.
