TEXT: JEREMIAH 31:1-14
MEMORY VERSE: “At the same time, saith the LORD, will I be the God of all the families of Israel, and they shall be my people” (Jeremiah 31:1 KJV).
Prophet Jeremiah warned Israel of the catastrophe that was to fall upon them because of their idolatry and sin. He lived to see his prediction come true. Jerusalem fell to Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar. Jerusalem and the Temple were destroyed and the king of Judah and many people taken to exile in Babylon. Jeremiah joined the exile and continued to prophesy.
When God speaks through his prophets, men have got to take note and observe the words of God. God has not failed to warn every generation of people on earth against prevailing sin and the consequences thereof. For the people of Israel in the time of Jeremiah, it was idolatry. For us today, we were warned that men shall be lovers of themselves, unholy and unfaithful to God (2 Tim. 3:1-5).
Unfortunately, many people do not pay attention to God’s warnings. Preachers and teachers of God’s word keep warning the world every day and everywhere. But it has always been as it was in time of Noah (Matt. 24:37-39).
For us who have decided to become Christians, let us take the warnings seriously and not be like the world, that we may not be taken unawares at the Second Coming. Like the wise virgins, let us be wise now and keep our lamp of holiness and righteousness burning. The days are have grown old. The hours are far spent. Very soon, the trumpet would sound. Would we be ready? Would the Lord find us prepared and waiting for His arrival?
God will take us into His rest if we preserve ourselves for Him in eternity. He will be our God and Father forever. At that time, our heart and life would be filled with joy and rejoicing. No better reward can anyone find elsewhere.
- Prepare yourself for the Second Coming or be rejected by God.
Lord, give me power to keep forging ahead in the war to gain blissful eternity
