ESOCS Devotional 18 December
TEXT: REVELATION 1:1-20
MEMORY VERSE: “For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God; and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?” 1 Peter 4:17 KJV
Jesus, the only begotten Son of the Father (John 3:16), and the first born from the dead (Rev. 1:5; 1 Cor. 15:20; Ps. 89:27), came into the world with His Messianic message, to show us the way back to God. He came also that we might have life, and have it more abundantly (John 10:10).
Having established the ministry of the gospel, He went back to heaven, and seated at the right hand of God. He still watches His Church to see how well or not the Church is doing. In the revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave to Him to show to His bondservant (vs.1), far-reaching messages concerning the problems of the churches in Asia were exposed. The problems of these seven churches were representative of all the churches that were in Asia at the time. These same problems are also typical of many churches throughout history. Therefore, though the message is directed specifically to these churches, a spiritual message goes out to all churches, until Jesus returns for His harvest, at the end of the present world system. We must therefore bear in mind that the warnings Jesus gave to these churches, are extended to the churches today.
As Jesus watches from heaven, and noting unfolding events, He will certainly come back in judgment at the end of time on the churches that harbour sin and all evil practices. Let the churches beware.
