TEXT: EPHESIANS 2:1-10
MEMORY VERSE: “The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints” (Ephesians 1:18).
There is certainly more to learn. The word of God is new every morning. What you know today may make more meaning to you if you dig deeper. In our text today, Paul prayed for the brethren in Ephesus for higher understanding.
Paul was always praying for the brethren for wisdom and understanding in the ways and things of God: “That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ …. May give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him” (v 17). This reminds us that one of the most important things we should focus on is desiring deep insight and knowledge of God, His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, the Holy Spirit, the word of God, His ways, and His will. When we occupy our minds and thoughts with such things, we would not have the time to indulge in sin or the world and all its pleasures.
Paul said concerning his desires: “[For my determined purpose is] that I may know Him [that I may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him, perceiving and recognizing and understanding the wonders of His Person more strongly and more clearly], and that I may in that same way come to know the power outflowing from His resurrection [which it exerts over believers], and that I may so share His sufferings as to be continually transformed [in spirit into His likeness even] to His death, [in the hope]. That if possible I may attain to the [spiritual and moral] resurrection [that lifts me] out from among the dead [even while in the body]” (Phil. 3:10-11 AMP).
Like Paul, let us indulge in this exercise continuously. It would help to make us win the kingdom race, and fit for the kingdom of God. Indeed, it is an exercise never to forget.
- Develop the longing to know Jesus more and more.
- Lord, please open my understanding and enrich me with your Spirit.
