TEXT: ROMANS 16:10-27
MEMORY VERSE: “Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no division among you but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment” (1 Corinthians 1:10 KJV).
Disunity and other vices are the cord of discord which ignites quarrel, misunderstanding, and an occasion for the devil to steal in and disorganize the church of God. On the other hand, unity is the string of love that binds together the children of God in order to prosper the word of the Lord.
Paul admonished the brethren at Corinth saying, “Now I say this, that each of you says, “I am of Paul,” or “I am of Apollos,” or “I am of Cephas,” or “I am of Christ.” Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?” (1 Cor 1:12-13).
There is immense power in unity. In Matt 18:19-20, our Lord Jesus said, “Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.”
Unity invokes the presence and power of God to achieve impossible things, to disorganize the kingdom of Satan and uplift the kingdom of God.
Christians and brethren should not allow in their midst division, contentions, sectionalism, disunity, and sectarian interests. Congregations that allow such things bring shame to God, for the devil would have occasion to prove that they do not love themselves. But the Church should be a haven of God’s love, as God’s children.
- Overcoming division and vices among Christians is a task given by God to His Church. Help to foster peace and love.
- Father give us grace to overcome division and other vices in the Church of God.
