MEMORY VERSE: “Then spake the chief butler unto Pharaoh, saying, I do remember my faults this day.” Genesis 41:9
TEXT: GENESIS 14:1 – 13 (KJV)
And it came to pass in the days of Amraphel king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of nations;
2 That these made war with Bera king of Sodom, and with Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, and Shemeber king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela, which is Zoar.
3 All these were joined together in the vale of Siddim, which is the salt sea.
4 Twelve years they served Chedorlaomer, and in the thirteenth year they rebelled.
5 And in the fourteenth year came Chedorlaomer, and the kings that were with him, and smote the Rephaims in Ashteroth Karnaim, and the Zuzims in Ham, and the Emins in Shaveh Kiriathaim,
6 And the Horites in their mount Seir, unto Elparan, which is by the wilderness.
7 And they returned, and came to Enmishpat, which is Kadesh, and smote all the country of the Amalekites, and also the Amorites, that dwelt in Hazezontamar.
8 And there went out the king of Sodom, and the king of Gomorrah, and the king of Admah, and the king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (the same is Zoar;) and they joined battle with them in the vale of Siddim;
9 With Chedorlaomer the king of Elam, and with Tidal king of nations, and Amraphel king of Shinar, and Arioch king of Ellasar; four kings with five.
10 And the vale of Siddim was full of slimepits; and the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, and fell there; and they that remained fled to the mountain.
11 And they took all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah, and all their victuals, and went their way.
12 And they took Lot, Abram’s brother’s son, who dwelt in Sodom, and his goods, and departed.
13 And there came one that had escaped, and told Abram the Hebrew; for he dwelt in the plain of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol, and brother of Aner: and these were confederate with Abram.

The chief butler received a favour from Joseph through whom his dream was interpreted and it came to pass as interpreted. Joseph in Genesis 40:23 had asked the butler to remember him and mention him to the king. However, when the chief butler was freed, he forgot Joseph for complete two years.
When God the ultimate helper decided to pull Joseph out of the prison and put him on the path to his glorious destiny, He initiated the move by giving Pharaoh the king a dream. This thought that God was the One that helped Joseph was supported by Psalm 105:16 – 22: “Moreover, he called for a famine upon the land: he brake the whole staff of brad. He sent a man before them, even Joseph, who was sold for a servant: whose feet they hurt with fetters: he was laid in iron: Until the time that his word came: the word of the LORD tried him. The king sent and loosed him; even the ruler of the people, and let him go free. He made him lord of his house, and ruler of all his substance: To bind his princes at this pleasure; and teach his senators wisdom.”
God knows us well enough and knows when the help we need will yield the most benefit and would always be on hand to render it.
Beloved, do not build your trust on man, the word of God has repeatedly said that “It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in princes” (Psalm 118:9). It does not matter how highly placed a man is he can still fail. God can never fail.
God is the ultimate help, because He is a present help in trouble. He is always there with you. He understands your nature, tolerance limit and capability. He will always show up when you need Him the most (Ps. 46:1).
God is also the ultimate help, because all powers belong to him (Ps. 62:11). Therefore, the power to help is of Him.
God is the ultimate help, because He is not limited by anything, in the water He is there to help, in the fire He is there to help, whatever be the situation, location or circumstances surrounding the challenges one has, God is able to deal with it.
God is the ultimate help, because with him nothing shall be impossible. God does not succumb to difficulties or impossibility; He deals with them in His stride to help. He parted the red sea for Israel to pass on their way from Egypt to Canaan land.
Beloved, there is absolutely no reason to doubt whether God would help. He is the ever-present help to anyone who would trust Him. To help us from the greatest problem of man which is sin He gave His beloved glorious son to die for us on the cross. If you have not received this help yet, it’s high time you got it. Lord Jesus Christ is the ultimate help for man.
- Do you still doubt the capacity of God to help? Why not make a change by giving Him your full trust.
- Father, please intervene with your divine help in all dire situations of my life.
