TEXT: PROVERBS 30:1-9
MEMORY VERSE: “Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him” (Proverbs 30:5 NIV).
The word of God has glorious qualities; or better still, attributes. It is infallible, just like God Himself who honours and magnifies His word above His name (Ps. 138:2). His word is all powerful, “For the Word that God speaks is alive and full of power [making it active, operative, energizing, and effective]; it is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating to the dividing line of the breath of life (soul) and [the immortal] spirit, and of joints and marrow [of the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and sifting and analyzing and judging the very thoughts and purposes of the heart” (Heb. 4:12 AMP).
God manifested His word in the flesh; that is, Jesus the Incarnate Word of God. The word of God cleanses from sin and all unrighteousness and makes believers pure (John 15:3). It heals sicknesses and diseases (Ps. 107:20). The word of God is truth (John 17:17; Ps. 119:160).
Those who cling to the word of God live a holy lifestyle, for it teaches and enables them to think right, do the right things, and live the right kind of life before God. It is “a lamp to [their] feet and a light to [their] path” (Ps. 119:105). They are always confident and nothing can make them afraid, for God is their defence and an ever-present help at all times and in all circumstances (Ps. 46:1).
A believer who desires to be strong in the Christian faith should love the word of God to the extreme; and the evidence is that he obeys it, respects it, and lives by it. Nothing else can draw us closer to God than His word. Anyone who does not have it in his heart has lost everything. It is an ever-refreshing tonic to the spirit. Drink it regularly and you would always be fulfilled.
- Always desire the word of God more than anything in life.
- Lord, grant me the grace to be steadfast in your word.
