TEXT: EPHESIANS 2:1-10
MEMORY VERSE: “That while we were spiritually dead in our disobedience, he brought us to life with Christ. It is by God’s grace that you have been saved” (Ephesians 2:10 GNV).
In this letter to the Church in Ephesus, Apostle Paul summarizes that the gospel of salvation by grace is through faith alone. He describes the nature and role of the Church in God’s eternal plan. In our text, we see the steps by which God will accomplish His purpose in the life of every individual.
We must first realize that without Christ in our life we are under condemnation. Those who refuse to receive Him are condemned already. Sin and Satan rules over them; they do not have the identity of the sons and daughters of God, the identity of the saints.
Such people are deep into corruption in every way: unbridled immorality, avarice, lies, blood-letting, and all other things that God hates. They follow “… the world’s evil way; [obey] the ruler of the spiritual powers in space, the spirit who now controls the people who disobey God”(Col. 1:21 GNV). They have nothing to do with the ways of God or of His kingdom. They would harvest the wrath and anger of God (v 3b).
But those who humble themselves to accept Jesus as their Lord and Saviour, and also remain faithful in living a life of obedience to God, holiness and righteousness in all that they do, would inherit eternal life and the crown of glory that God would give to His faithful ones on the Last Day.
We pay nothing for our salvation in Christ. It is free of charge (FOC). All that is required of us is to agree that what God did in Christ is genuine and true, and then, identify with it by living a saintly lifestyle; for He has purged us of our sins and made us His saints; and these are the best clothes to wear!
- Develop the attitude to hate and reject the world always.
- Lord, let your Spirit continue to produce the fruits of righteousness in me.
